Flag Designs for Earth & The Solar System in 2020 and Beyond
Redittor thefrek has designed a kick-ass series of flags for the Solar System and its planets. But flags, as we all know, change over time. So he’s also created possible revisions for those flags reaching as far as 800 years into the future.
Here you’ll find thefrek’s concept designs for “Earth/Solar flags throughout the future,” but we highly recommend checking out the banners he envisioned for each individual planet, and especially this batch of future-flags from a Martian Revolution, when the Red Planet “declares itself to be the dominant force in the Solar System, and claims all other planets as part of its empire.”
Earth’s flag

2020: Humanity is only present on Earth and the Moon.

2044: Humans have settlements on Earth, the Moon, Mars and its moons, and Ceres.

2087:Two more objects in the Asteroid Belt have been colonized as well as Europa and Venus.

2204: Humans have settled on every large body in the Solar System. Terraforming is well underway on most planets, and interstellar voyages are beginning.

2355: Another star system is incorporated into the Solar Federation.

2412: Another system has been conquered.

2484: The Solar Federation now has too many systems to show them on the flag - Each circle represents one star system, with the Solar System in the centre.

2514: Yet more systems are being settled.

2544: Expansion is occurring at a breakneck pace.

2639: Several different alien races now exist within the Solar Federation, co-existing peacefully with humanity.

2812: 800 years into the future, the Solar Federation is the leading force in the galaxy, with all denizens of our galaxy being given equal representation. Humanity has taken the responsibility to ensure peace and prosperity everywhere in the Milky Way.

October Sky

i-shoot-for-my-own-hand:

Merida bit her lips, so… he really could see her. She took a deep breath before stepping out of the shadows towards him, he did seems like a nice person and there was something in the way he talked that made her trust him, or at least just a little bit.

"I’m older than I look, you know?" she said trying to practicing her chatting abilities, which if you were an old spirit like her wouldn’t be much, besides, she wanted to make sure that he knew she wasn’t a child, she died at nineteen years old, almost twenty, she didn’t like the idea to look like a kid, she wasn’t that small, was she?

Okay. That was different. He’d thought maybe she was about nine. As she entered the clearing, he realized she was about ten years older than that. Maybe even twenty. Immediately, he backed up, scooted forward, whatever, to show surprise. “I’m—sorry, I thought you were a bit..younger than I—well, I must’ve just been seeing things, is all. Are you still interested in my sketches, maybe?”

Something about her made Grian watch her carefully. It was strange, how she spoke, he supposed. This was different than human conversation. Wasn’t it? Probably not. The old artist was probably tired.

"All I know is I’m glad it’s over. You got any Neosporin or something? One of the guard dogs got me when I was trying to climb the fence. And I get this feeling like its mouth isn’t very clean."

"Yeah," he dug in his pocket and pulled out a light blue tube of triple pain relieving antibiotic ointment. "Off-brand neosporin, but it works, and it’s travel-sized, so you can’t complain. And I should apologize. I forget not everyone can pole vault over a fence when they need it."

"Yeah, yeah, it is. That’s smething that is definitely important. Like when you need a satanic ritual to open a pack of scissors."

There was a bit of an awkward pause, it was very brief yes, but it was certainly there after Jack had faked a coughing fit to cover up the clicks and ticks of his clock. He let it pass without any guilt or leftover discomfort, and quietly followed after the other.

Was he in a rush? It felt like it. Maybe the other was just nervous at having a stranger come to his home. Jack could understand the point, but not on the dot. Having lived with the midwife of Edinburgh, and part time doctor, Jack was quite used to having strangers visit his childhood home. He stepped into the other’s humble abode.

"Thanks, and…whatever it is I have, i-it’s not contagious, I promise," can’t catch a cuckoo clock heart or its malfunctions, sorry.

"How do you know it isn’t contaigous, if you don’t know what you have?" Replied Grian as he slipped into the kitchen and filled the electric kettle. The den was filled with dried and drying canvases, the air heavy with a mixture of paint, tea, and a thick, metallic scent.

A striped charcoal grey and black set with a chair and couch rested haphazardly catty-cornered, as if they were moved around frequently. The surface of the wooden floor was scratched around the black, wooden table, marred with scratches and worn in places where glasses and paintbrushes once resided. Dried paint dotted the dull surface. Aside from the bland furniture and suffocating amount of art supplies, there were no other personal effects that were immediately visible in the den. Down the hall, Grian’s bedroom door stood open. From the bedroom, a small slice of colourful bedding on a cluttered floor and mint green walls peeked into the bland den.

The electric kettle hissed and gurgled as the filament sputtered to life and began to heat the water. After a short silence, Grian asked, “so, what’s the story? Your story, I mean.”
